We continue our trek easterly around the northern side of Kilimanjaro, making our way slowly up and down countless ravines and valleys, on our way to the 3rd Cave Camp.
Situated on the edge of the grassy vegetation zone directly to the north, the camp is at the bottom of an ancient lava flow. Within the dry 'riverbed' are numerous fossils, and even the suprisingly out-of-place flower.
3rd Cave Camp is reassuringly familiar, as our 2013 adventure to summit Kilimanjaro used this camp, via the Rongai route.
Aside from myself, thanks to Cam Foley, Aidan Proctor, Srijuth Wimalajeewa and Tamara Hay for some amazing photographs!
